VISION

We pursue a development of an evidence-based psychiatric care system drawing on such a management of the available human, financial and other resources that brings the greatest possible benefit to the people with mental illness, their families and the society as a whole.

AIMS

The overarching aim of this project is to establish a complex system for evidence-based mental health care development in the Czech Republic and to implement it in practice. The main aim will be achieved via following nine partial aims:

  1. To establish an expert knowledge platform that would consist of a wide spectrum of stakeholders and thus to ensure functionality and sustainability of the proposed system.
  2. To establish a supervising group consisting of prominent international experts who will advise and help the realization team throughout the whole duration of the project.
  3. To revise and refine a questionnaire measuring clients’ consumption of services that was developed at NIMH and that is currently being tested.
  4. To calculate unit costs of services consumed by a client and thus to enable assignment of economic costs to the units of consumed services.
  5. To revise and refine a matrix of research instruments, developed at NIMH and currently being pilot-tested, measuring effectiveness of mental health care services.
  6. To choose and pilot a research instrument measuring recovery in people with mental illness and to integrate it into the matrix of research instruments.
  7. To establish procedures for application of the research instruments that will be part of the system in order to ensure unified application with high inter-rater reliability.
  8. To train a young generation of researchers in the field of economic evaluations of mental health care and thus to ensure sustainability of the system.
  9. To publish an overview monography describing basic principles of evaluation of psychiatric services.
